All therapists are either currently certified or working towards certification as Registered Play Therapists or Registered Play Therapist-Supervisors.

Trauma-Informed Care

To provide trauma-informed care to children, youth, and families, professionals must understand the impact of trauma on child development and how to effectively minimize its effects without causing additional trauma (SAMHSA 2014). There is consensus in the research about how trauma impacts people in that it is a mind/body experience which necessitates a mind body approach (Dan Siegel 2007). The core principles of Trauma-Informed Care (NCTIC 2011) include understanding trauma and its impact, promoting safety, ensuring cultural competence, supporting consumer control, choice, and autonomy. Healing happens in relationships, integrating care, and understanding recovery is possible. The clinicians at Focus on Youth are trained in Trauma Informed Care and Evidenced Based Practices to assist children and families with recovery from traumatic experiences.

Behavioral Health Outcomes at Focus on Youth

We use Partner for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS ) a client driven, feedback-informed approach for improving the treatment outcomes of adults and children participating in a behavioral health care intervention. PCOMS is listed on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidenced-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).  We are asking clients how we can better serve them and if we are addressing their needs.  This translates into clients driving the direction of treatment to better serve youth and families.
